This is part two in a series of the importance of praying in the spirit. You can read part one here.
God has a plan for your life, and He will supernaturally meet your needs. The Holy Spirit knows your future and He knows about everybody around you. The Holy Spirit is constantly seeking and searching for somebody who will yield themselves to Him and allow Him to show them things.
These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. – John 14:25-26
The first thing that we discovered was that He is the comforter, He is one called along side to help you.
…He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. – John 14:26b
He will also teach, develop, and educate us in the things of God. Not only is He called along side to help us, but He’s there to educate and teach us in the things of the Word and Spirit.
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will show you things to come. – John 16:13
He knows your future. He knows the paths that are set before you. He will show you the things to come. The Holy Spirit is our comforter and our teacher. He gives us revelation truths and understanding that there is no other way to get, if it were not for Him. He will show us things to come, according to God’s word.
All things that the Father has are mine: therefore said I, that He shall take of mine, and shall show it unto you. – John 16:15
He will show you God’s will, plan and purpose. I will never forget April 5, 1984. I was praying for God’s will and plan to be accomplished in my life. There was nothing in my life that was more important than knowing Him. It seemed that if I went ten minutes without communicating with God, I felt lost and backslidden. They were telling me that I would never get out of prison on parole. I was praying behind the prison saying, “Lord, whatever You want me to do, wherever You want me to go, I will go.” I was just praying in the spirit when I began to prophesy. (1 Corinthians 14:6) The Lord said this to me, “You’ll begin to enter into the first phase of ministry that I called you to, from this very day. You’ll begin to walk in a new anointing that you have not walked in or have not been able to walk in up to this point. You will walk out of these prison gates and you will go and preach my Word not only here in the United States of America, but around the world.”
God knew my future! I am out of prison today, doing what the Lord said. I received a full pardon in June 1993! That very day, in 1984, I began to walk in a different anointing than I had ever walked in before. That day was the first time I ever cast out a devil in my life. There had been a lot of binding, rebuking, releasing, and letting go before that time, but nothing was happening. The anointing makes the difference!
The devil is not your biggest enemy. (Luke 10:19) You are your biggest enemy. If you just do what the Bible says do, the Holy Spirit will show you things to come. He will warn you about impending danger. I remember when I crash-landed one of my airplanes. One day, I was impressed to get on my knees and pray. While praying in the spirit, I was impressed with some words. I begin to speak them out. “Warning, death and destruction; warning, death and destruction, don’t go there. Don’t go there, don’t go there.” I prayed that out on a Wednesday night. I thought I really had a stem-winder and I was gonna preach it in the church I was at. I didn’t realize it was for me! The Lord was trying to tell me I didn’t need to fly where I was going the next day. He knew my future!
I got up early the next morning hurriedly because I needed to go and pick up an airplane part. I called my wife on the phone and immediately she said,” You haven’t left have you? Don’t go! I was impressed that you should not go to that airport today.” The Holy Spirit was trying to show me things to come. I ignored my wife and the Holy Spirit’s protest. I took off in that airplane. Icing conditions were just right. I didn’t know it, but a twenty-nine cent screw had been left loose. It controlled a carburetor heat device that would stop my carburetor from freezing, if icing conditions were present. When I flipped the switch in order for it to have carburetor heat, I didn’t realize it, but it wasn’t heating the carburetor, it was gathering moisture and freezing. Finally it closed up and it wasn’t getting any air at all. In order to run a combustion engine, you have got to have plenty of fuel and air. I had plenty of fuel, but no air. Silence is golden, but not in an airplane! As soon as it quit, I heard, ”Death and destruction, don’t go there; death and destruction, don’t go there.” To make a long story short, I crash-landed the airplane. I wasn’t hurt, but the plane was totaled out.
You can be assured; I have learned to be more sensitive to God. If I just think it’s the Holy Spirit, I’m going to listen. I’d rather miss it on the positive side, than on the negative side. That’s why it is important to pray in the Holy Spirit.
It is important to spend time praying in the spirit, because you know certain things naturally, and you can know things by reading God’s word. There are other things that have to come by revelation knowledge. They are only going to come if you pray them out.
And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. – Acts 2:1-4
The Spirit gave them the words to speak. He’s not going to do your praying for you. He’s going to speak through you. Mysteries of God that would never be revealed to you, can be revealed by praying in the Holy Spirit.
Call unto me and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. – Jeremiah 33:3
The Lord is waiting for you to ask.
