We want to be praying in line with the Word, but at the same time, we also want to pray in the spirit. We need to spend much time praying in other tongues. Many times, especially in special meetings, the Holy Ghost will prompt me to pray in the spirit and I’ll be praying in other tongues. I do that because I find myself getting over into the mental realm. I’m not saying we shouldn’t use our noggin. God gave us a little brains to operate with sometimes. I’ll find myself getting into the mental realm trying to think up something then the Holy Ghost will catch me and say, “No. Get out of the mental realm. That’s not going to get you where you need to go. Pray in the Holy Ghost.”
I begin to shut down my mind and get praying in the spirit, then suddenly it begins to arise. I can’t tell you how I know that I know, but it begins to arise out of my spirit. It brings illumination to my mind and I can see the picture clearly. Many times I’ll get a message that I’ve never spoken before that the Lord will give me while I’m praying in other tongues. It’s not coming in the mental realm. You are supposed to use your mind as far as you can go, but it’s not going to take you very far.
Knowing what the Holy Ghost wants to do in a service comes by praying in other tongues. You say, “Well how long do you pray?” You pray until you know. What is it that you want to know in your life? What is it you have a question about that you want an answer to in your life? If you’ll go before the Lord with it and be specific about that particular thing and ask the Lord about it, He will answer you.
We need to pray much in the spirit. Our anointings, equipings, and messages come out of the Spirit of God. We need to be acquainted with Him. We need to get in the spirit and receive impartations and anointing from Him so that when we get up, we’re not speaking what I say, but ‘thus saith the Lord.’ That’s where the anointing is at. That’s what the people want, and that’s what’s going to bring the people in.
We’re not to give book reports about the Bible. Anybody can give a book report. Sad to say, this coming Sunday there’s going to be a lot of that. God doesn’t want us giving book reports. He want us giving, ‘thus saith the Lord’ in this day because that’s what’s going to change people’s lives. That’s where the anointing is at that’s going to penetrate someone’s heart so they’ll come to the Lord and get their life straightened out.
Romans 8:26-28 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit himself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
If you obey verses 26 and 27, verse 28 is going to work for you. It’s gonna turn out good, not bad.
Also, there’s another side to this verse talking about infirmities. There’s things sometimes in us that we don’t even realize that affect us and set limitations on us. There are things that we can have in our life that we don’t know, but the Holy Ghost knows. He’ll have us pray about those things even though we may not know what we’re praying about. The Holy Ghost will help our inabilities and reveal it to us. I’ve had things in my life that have come up and I’ve wondered where they came from. The Lord has told me that those things were always in me and praying in the Holy Ghost brought them up so I could deal with them and get them out of my life.
There’s many reasons we pray in the Holy Ghost. That’s just a few of them. The point is that, as Christians, we should be praying in the spirit. That’s God’s will for our lives because it gets us tuned in with Him. Keeping praying. God is with us.
