As Christians, we must stake a claim on what is ours. Too many Christians aren’t aware of their rights and benefits that belong to them through Jesus’ death on the cross. Have you ever seen those notices in the paper trying to find the heirs of a relative that has passed away? There are people that pass away and leave millions of dollars to distant relatives and friends who don’t even know that they have this money because they don’t know what is written in that will. All those benefits are just sitting there and they belong to them. They don’t collect on the will and don’t seek it out. Jesus Christ left us a will – and it spells out everything that God desires for you, everything that He has left for you- and that is the New Testament. It’s sitting right there. You just have to seek it out.
If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. – John 15:7
Jesus said that we could ask whatever we wanted and He’d give it to us. However, you must qualify. There’s something that has to be done first and that is you abiding in God’s Word and His Word abiding in you.
If you go to God’s Word, you will find out His will. That means you can go to Him in prayer and you can ask what you want and you will receive.
To pray the known will of God, and to be in faith when you pray, you have to go to His Word and get His will (which is His Word) on the issue and that is how you pray. You can not go out and just pray some crazy thing and expect it to come to pass. That’s where so many people get into trouble.
People will pray and believe that they will receive a million dollars, ten new sports cars, and three new mansions and when it doesn’t come to pass they say that this prayer thing doesn’t work. No. It works if you know how to pray God’s way. God’s way is to get the Word of God on the issue and pray according to it. You have to let it get down in you. You have to get it abiding in you, get you abiding in it and you can ask whatever you will and you shall receive.
That is the only way the prayer of faith works. You cannot be in faith unless you have something to build your faith on. And the thing you always build your faith on is the Word of God.
