You have to have an earnest desire to walk in the Spirit or you never will. It is yielding totally to God, His will and being obedient to Him. You must have a desire to become acquainted with the Lord Jesus Christ. This will mean leaving the life of the flesh, parties, social clubs and the normal backslid Christian life behind.
It will be hard on the flesh, but the rewards are beyond this world! Just ask Jesus Christ if it was worth it. Don’t you really desire to know the Lord in this life? Do you want to continue to go through the motions of church and Christianity and never really know him? These things are not taught today because we have the world in the church. People would have to admit they are wrong for bringing the world into the church, to preach them, so they don’t. Many think preaching on dedication, consecration and sanctification is preaching condemnation today. How sad.
There are keys that will help us walk in the Spirit.
For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. (Romans 8:5)
The first thing is to be willing to renounce all carnality and crucify the flesh. Putting God first by seeking Him in prayer must be a priority. Put aside fleshly things you enjoy and spend time in prayer. Offer those things as a sacrifice on the altar of God. If you have believed in unbiblical grace, you were taught this is not necessary because Jesus did it all and you do nothing.
The next thing is spend time meditating deeply on the Word of God. Ask the Lord to impart to you the revelation of His Word. It is better to have revelation of a scripture than to read the whole Bible and not really understand it.
Next, obey what the Bible says. Jesus expects you to do so. He did not obey the Bible for you. You must obey it yourself. His Spirit gives you the ability to obey it. You will receive His strength and ability.
Next, pray in other tongues as you wait on Him. It is the language of God that you are speaking. You are praying out mysteries and revelations. He will reveal Himself to you on a level like you have never known before!
That’s how you walk in the Spirit. This is how you are pleasing to God and how you don’t fulfill the lust of the flesh. God is with you.
