Developing a Desire for Prayer and Bible Study

August 7, 2024 By Rev. Randall Grier

God’s thoughts are my thoughts.
God’s ways are my ways.
God’s plans are my plans.
God’s purposes are my purposes.

I have a desire to study God’s Word and seek His face in prayer. I have a desire to study God’s Word and seek His face in prayer.

This is wonderful declaration to make over your life. If you will do it, your spirit will plan ways to get you to meet with God. Your spirit, that dwells where the Holy Spirit dwells, will get together and make plans for you to get closer to God than you have ever been before. Start speaking out of your mouth:

God’s thoughts are my thoughts.
God’s ways are my ways.
God’s plans are my plans.
God’s purposes are my purposes.
I have a desire to study God’s Word and seek His face in prayer.
I have a desire to study God’s Word and seek His face in prayer.

As you do that, you’re going to find yourself desiring to study the Word of God and pray. It’s probably not going to happen over night, but over a period of days, you’re going to see it working in your life. You’re getting in agreement with God. You’re giving Him something to work with. You’re showing Him that you want to do this and that you desire to get closer to Him. You’re saying that you want to see it happen in your life so you can be where God wants you to be.

Though this may sound elementary, it is profound. It will put you in a place where you desire God more than ever before. You’ll want to pray. You’ll want to study the Word like never before.

If you want to get really bold, you add 8 chapters to your Bible reading a day. And read the New Testament all the way through in 30 days. If you can’t do eight chapters, do four chapters. If you can’t do four chapters, do two chapters. And read it, not like any other book or like a task. Before you start reading, you ask God to bring you revelation of His Word.

The Lord taught me this years ago.

When I started reading the Word, I could tell where it was located in the Bible. I knew the chapter and the verse. But then as I continued in it, the Lord saw I was serious and began to give me revelation of scriptures that I had never seen before.

Remember when the Lord Jesus appeared to Dad Hagin in Broken Bow, Oklahoma? The Lord was teaching him how he had authority over devils, and Dad Hagin spoke up and said, “Lord, I’ve read the New Testament through 150 times and portions of it more than that, and if there’s anything in there like that, I sure don’t know it.”

The Lord was kind and just told him, “There’s a lot of things in that there you don’t know.”

Dad Hagin had information, but he didn’t have revelation. But it became revelation. If you will read the Bible and ask God to reveal to you things and truths in there, He will. It will no longer become a chore to do; it will be a pleasure. You’ll have a desire to do it. The Lord will reveal things to you. He’ll wake you up and show you things. He’ll show you things about your family. He’ll show you things to pray about. He’ll show you all kinds of things.

If you’re not praying like you want to or reading the Word like you want to, I encourage you to pick this up. Make that declaration over your life on a continual basis, and you’re going to see things change. God is with us!

God’s thoughts are my thoughts.
God’s ways are my ways.
God’s plans are my plans.
God’s purposes are my purposes.
I have a desire to study God’s Word and seek His face in prayer.
I have a desire to study God’s Word and seek His face in prayer.

About Rev. Randall Grier

Rev. Randall Grier answered the call of the Lord Jesus to preach the Gospel while on his third escape from prison in May of 1982. Rev. Grier surrendered to the call of God and turned himself in to the authorities. While praying out behind the prison on April 5, 1984, he had a supernatural experience with Jesus. Jesus said, “I am anointing you today to begin to enter into the ministry I have called you to and nations and countries will be changed through this anointing.” That very day Rev. Grier entered into a powerful anointing to set the captive free. He was released from prison on August 27, 1984 after being told he would be released in the month of 'none' - all by a miracle of God!
