Why Churches Miss the Move of God (Staying With the Heavenly Vision)

February 19, 2026 By Rev. Randall Grier

Thank God for the Holy Ghost. We are living in a day when many churches want a move of God, but wanting something and actually having it are two different things. The Bible gives us a warning that most have overlooked:

Except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it. — Psalm 127:1

That means a church can work, plan, organize, promote, and still miss God entirely. And that is exactly what has happened in much of the church world. People have traded prayer for programs, consecration for convenience, and the Spirit’s leading for natural ideas. When churches drift into the natural realm, the anointing lifts, and they start relying on the same things the world relies on. You cannot produce the move of God using the methods of men. You cannot follow the world system and expect the power of the Holy Ghost to show up. When the flesh is in charge, the results are powerless, empty, and temporary.

There is a difference between an informational church and a revelational church. An informational church gives you facts. A revelational church gives you what the Spirit is saying. Revelation only comes to those who pray, wait on God, and stay in the Spirit. When ministers stop praying, they stop hearing. When they stop hearing, they start leading from the natural realm. And when that happens, the church loses its identity. Christianity becomes a trend instead of a transformation. Anything and everything gets called spiritual, when in reality the Spirit of God is nowhere near it.

The Apostle Paul gives us the pattern for staying with God when everything around you is shifting. After the glory of God stopped him on the Damascus road, he made one decision that governed his entire ministry.

Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision. — Acts 26:19

Paul refused to move away from what God told him, no matter the pressure or opposition. He didn’t follow trends. He didn’t update his calling to fit the culture. He didn’t trade the supernatural for the natural. He stayed with the heavenly vision—and that is why the power of God followed his ministry. The same principle applies today. When churches and believers stay with what God said, the Lord will move. When they turn to natural substitutes, the Spirit withdraws.

This is why cultural trends are so dangerous. They look good. They feel good. They promise quick results. But they are not the move of God. Marketing, entertainment, and creativity cannot replace obedience, prayer, and consecration. When you lose the true meaning of Christianity, you lose the definition of the Holy Ghost. And when the Holy Ghost is not leading the church, the church loses its power.

The answer has never changed: go back to prayer. Go back to waiting on God. Go back to honoring what God has done and obeying what He has said. Waiting on God is not wasted time—it is the highest form of honor you can offer Him. Every move of God in the Bible came when people separated themselves, prayed, fasted, and refused to move until God spoke.

Jesus Himself followed the heavenly pattern and honored the move that came before Him.

But Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. — Matthew 3:15

Honor and obedience open the door for the Spirit of God to move. Disobedience and self-will close it. Jesus wept over Jerusalem because they did not know the time of their visitation. They were religious, active, and sincere—but they missed God’s moment because they were more influenced by the world around them than the Spirit within them.

We are living in a similar time. Many are distracted, busy, and unaware of what the Holy Ghost is saying. But the move of God is coming, and nothing will stop it. The first wave will come to those who pray, fast, seek God, judge themselves, stay with the Spirit, and refuse to follow the world system. Stay with the heavenly vision. Stay with what God said. Don’t labor in vain. Don’t miss your visitation. If you stay with the Spirit of God, you will be right in the middle of what He is doing in this generation.

Thank God for the Holy Ghost.

About Rev. Randall Grier

Rev. Randall Grier answered the call of the Lord Jesus to preach the Gospel while on his third escape from prison in May of 1982. Rev. Grier surrendered to the call of God and turned himself in to the authorities. While praying out behind the prison on April 5, 1984, he had a supernatural experience with Jesus. Jesus said, “I am anointing you today to begin to enter into the ministry I have called you to and nations and countries will be changed through this anointing.” That very day Rev. Grier entered into a powerful anointing to set the captive free. He was released from prison on August 27, 1984 after being told he would be released in the month of 'none' - all by a miracle of God!
