The Lord told me in a recent meeting that He was tired of His people being poor, broke, busted, and disgusted. There are things that the Lord wants to do on the earth, but it takes money to do that. Some people don’t believe that. They think that money is of the devil or being abundantly supplied is somehow demonic. But how can it be when the Bible says the contrary? It can’t!
The Lord said He is not satisfied with where you might be financially right now, because He wants you to move beyond that current level. We have to understand that there is a difference between prosperity as it often gets preached (or mistreated) and what true prosperity really is.
True prosperity is balanced, encompassing spiritual, material, financial, and physical well-being (spirit, soul, and body). That means it includes finances as well. And specifically regarding finances, God wants your cup to runneth over. This isn’t so you can have the latest and greatest of everything; however, God isn’t against you having stuff. He’s against stuff having you.
The purpose of this increase is so you can be blessed to be a blessing to others and advance the Kingdom of God. The number one goal of every Christian should be to advance the Kingdom of God and get the gospel message out to those who haven’t heard.
If you are going to prosper and increase your finances, though, you must practice one major principle: the spiritual law of sowing and reaping. This law is an absolute that must be obeyed, found in 2 Corinthians 9:6:
“He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.”
It doesn’t matter what level you are on or how much you have. You can apply this to your life. And the Word makes it clear that whatever level you sow on will determine what comes back to you. If you sow sparingly, you will reap sparingly, and if you sow bountifully, you will reap bountifully. The Lord will meet you where you’re at. Sparingly and bountifully are not measured by what you give but by what you have. It’s not based on a dollar amount.
I’m sure you remember the story of the Widow’s Mite. When Jesus watched people putting money in the offering bucket, He noted that rich individuals often gave out of their abundance, meaning they should have given much more because they had the ability. However, the little lady who cast in just a small amount put in more than everyone else because she cast in everything that she had. It’s not a dollar amount, so lose that mentality.
The Lord wants you to reach out by faith and grab hold of what He says to do. In order to move from your current financial level, you must stretch your faith and sometimes put in more than just a few pennies. This requires being willing to step out.
Step out in faith. And start where you’re at. You’ll grow, but start where you’re at. There was a time that I was at a meeting, and the Lord told me that I would very shortly be giving away $100 bills “like they’re popsicles.” But it didn’t start there. In fact, it started with the lone $50 bill that I had.
The Lord instructed me to give that $50 bill away to the first minister I saw when I walked in the door one morning. I did exactly what He said. I was obedient, and you have to be too. Later in a night service I had a gentleman come up to me and give me a roll of $100 bills so big you could choke a goat, if you know what that means.
I started rejoicing and giving out $100 bills like they were popsicles. The Word of the Lord is true. But it started with being obedient to sow.
The commitment to sow requires courage and stretches your will. I have story after story like this that all comes back to being obedient to the Word to sow and putting my faith in what God said in His Word. If you will step out of where you are, reach out by faith, and commit to the law of sowing and reaping, God will move you beyond barely getting along street to more than enough, abundantly supplied. God is with us!
