Receiving the Lord’s anointing requires us to be in the right place at the right time. Elisha positioned himself for this by following Elijah and being present when the mantle fell. We see in 2 Kings 2:14 that Elisha struck the waters with the mantle, and they parted, signifying that he had received the anointing because he was prepared. Before granting Elisha’s request, Elijah tested him three times, as recorded in 2 Kings 2:1-15, only asking him what he desired after they crossed the Jordan River.
Why was this testing necessary? The Bible advises us not to cast pearls before swine (Matthew 7:6), because pigs will trample on precious gems without recognizing their value. In the same way, the Lord will not bestow His precious anointing on those who do not appreciate it. Those who desire the Spirit and anointing of God must esteem and value these gifts. Too many have trampled them underfoot in the past, but today, God is searching for those who hold His gifts in high regard. There is a price to pay for the anointing. We have the choice to remain the same or seek God for change.
The Power of God in Our Generation
When we follow the divine pattern and position ourselves as Elisha did, the supernatural power of God will be available to us. Acts 10:38 tells us that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil because God was with Him. This same power is going to be demonstrated to this generation before the end comes.
The Lord shared with me, “There is much teaching, preaching, and proclaiming, but very little demonstration of My power in what is being taught. It is time for the demonstration of My power. The gifts of the Spirit will be in great manifestation.” We must prepare ourselves to see God move powerfully in ways that surpass previous revivals and movements.
The Call to Ascend the Mountain
A while back, in prayer, the Lord spoke to me and said, “I want to give you a plan—for yourself, for every Christian, and for every minister in the church today. The supernatural element has been missing from My church.” His words to me were clear: Pattern, Position, and Power.
Moses, too, was given instructions from the Lord to leave behind all other duties and ascend the mountain to receive God’s pattern for himself and the people (Exodus 24:12–25:9). The Lord told him, “Come up to me into the mount, and be there: and I will give thee tables of stone, and a law, and commandments which I have written; that thou may teach them” (Exodus 24:12). Moses understood the importance of being in the right place to hear from God.
Today, many listen to various sources—books, CDs, DVDs, conferences, TV, radio—but it is crucial that we hear directly from the Lord. Moses delegated his responsibilities and went to be with God, knowing that the divine pattern or plan is not found on earth. He waited seven days before God spoke. It takes faith to wait on the Lord.
We must be cautious not to let the busyness of life keep us from staying on the mountain. If we do, we can miss the pattern God has for us. We cannot rush God to act according to our timing; we must wait in faith. Some may feel they don’t have time to wait on the Lord, but by hurrying, they miss out on His plan. In truth, we don’t have the time not to wait on God. We inherit the best through faith and patience.
Embracing the Move of God
We are now in the midst of a move of God that will surpass what occurred at Azusa Street, the Healing Revival, and the Charismatic movement. Even if these past movements were combined and multiplied by ten, they would not compare to what we are entering into now. Brother Seymour of Azusa prophesied that a hundred years later, there would be a mighty move of God. We are overdue for a move of God!
I urge you not to miss out on what the Lord is doing in the church today. Jesus wept over Jerusalem because they missed the time of their visitation. Let us not miss ours. Take time to wait on the Lord in prayer, align your life and ministry with His pattern, and position yourself to receive His anointing, for the power of God is ready to be demonstrated in our generation.
