Many Christians want to hear from God more clearly. They want His direction, His wisdom, and His power working in their lives and ministries. Yet they often neglect one of the greatest keys to walking in these things: ministering to the Lord.
Ministering to the Lord is not about asking Him for things. It is about worshipping Him for who He is. It is about spending time in His presence, not to receive, but to give Him honor, praise, and love. Too often, believers rush into prayer with a list of requests. They ask God to bless them, to guide them, to meet their needs. But they give little time to simply worshipping Him. Ministering to the Lord is what prepares your heart to hear His voice clearly and to move in His power.
In Acts 13, we see this principle at work. The scripture says, “As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Ghost said…” It was during this time of ministering to the Lord that the believers in Antioch heard the Holy Spirit speak direction about Paul and Barnabas. It did not come through striving or begging. It came as they took time to minister to the Lord. When you put Him first and worship Him with no agenda, your spirit becomes sensitive to His voice. The distractions fall away. His presence becomes real. And in that atmosphere, He will speak.
Some believers think they must work up a spiritual experience to hear from God. They try to force it. But that is not the way of the Spirit. You do not work up His presence. You yield to it. As you minister to the Lord with a pure heart, without self-seeking, you position yourself to hear what He is saying. It is a spiritual law: the more you focus on Him, the more clearly you will hear Him.
Ministering to the Lord also prepares you to walk in greater power. The power of God flows through those who know Him intimately. It is not a matter of talent, personality, or effort. It is the result of time spent with Him. Jesus said, “Abide in Me, and I in you.” Power flows from abiding. If you want to move in greater power, spend greater time ministering to the Lord.
In the early days of my ministry, I noticed that the times of greatest anointing came after extended times of worship and ministering to the Lord. It was not about preaching harder or praying louder. It was about staying in His presence until my heart was full of Him. When I did that, the anointing was strong, and the Word came forth with clarity and power.
Too many ministers focus on the public side of ministry—sermons, meetings, outreach—while neglecting the private side of ministering to the Lord. But the private time determines the public fruit. If you will take time to minister to Him in secret, He will reward you openly. The power people see will be the result of the fellowship you have with Him when no one else is watching.
This is not just for preachers. Every believer is called to minister to the Lord. Every Christian can walk in greater spiritual sensitivity and power if they will practice this. Set aside time each day, not to ask for things, but to worship Him. Read His Word. Sing to Him. Speak words of love and honor to Him. Thank Him for His goodness. As you do, your spirit will become more attuned to His voice. You will begin to hear more clearly. You will know what to do, what to say, and where to go. His power will work in you and through you in greater measure.
One reason many believers struggle to hear God is that they have not cultivated this habit. They run to Him only when they need something. But relationship is not built that way. If you only came to a friend when you needed help, that friendship would be shallow. In the same way, your walk with God will be shallow if you neglect to minister to Him.
Ministering to the Lord is not difficult. It is not about how long you pray or how eloquent your words are. It is about the heart. It is about coming before Him with love, honor, and reverence. If you will do this consistently, you will find that hearing His voice becomes easier. You will recognize the inward witness. The inward voice will become clear. The still small voice of the Holy Spirit will be distinct. You will not have to strive. You will know.
As you minister to the Lord, your motives are also purified. You begin to desire His will above your own. You are no longer seeking your own agenda but His plan. This is key to walking in true spiritual authority. God entrusts His power to those who seek His heart, not their own gain. Ministering to the Lord shapes you into a vessel He can use.
In these last days, it is vital that we hear from God clearly and move in His power. The world needs to see Jesus through His Church. But this will not happen through human effort. It will happen through believers who know their God, who hear His voice, and who carry His power. Ministering to the Lord is the path to this kind of life.
I encourage you—take time to minister to the Lord. Make it a priority, not an afterthought. Worship Him. Love Him. Honor Him. Do it when no one is watching. As you do, you will find that His voice becomes clearer, His presence becomes stronger, and His power works through you in ways you never imagined. This is His desire for every believer. Will you answer the call?
